General Questions

About The Test

How much will it cost?

VOSA recommended price: £54.85

Our Price:             ONLY  £48

At MOTs 4 U we only offer MOT tests (Class 4). We do not do repairs or sell any parts. Just MOTs. This means you can rest assured that you will receive a completely unbiased MOT test and feel assured that no other services will be offered or sold to you.

How long will the MOT take?

Approximately 40 mins.

We pride ourselves at good time keeping and will always work to our fullest.

You are more than welcome to sit in our waiting area and have a cup of tea or coffee whilst you wait.

What happens if my vehicle fails the MOT?

If your vehicle fails its MOT you will be issued with a VT30 certificate listing the items that caused your vehicle to fail.

Understanding the listed problems is important so you are able to carry out the correct repairs in order for the vehicle to pass on return.

Remember, we do not do repairs or sell parts at MOTs 4 U, which means we will not fail your car unnecessarily as we do not gain anything from doing so.

You will have 10 working days to repair the problems and return the car to us for a FREE retest. If the vehicle is returned to us after 10 working days however, we will have to carry out a full MOT at full price.

PLEASE NOTE: Any vehicle that does not have a valid MOT must not be driven on the road unless travelling to and from the MOT station or garage for a pre-booked appointment.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring any keys needed to open the car, boot and fuel cap.

How far in advance do I need to book an MOT?

There is no set time to book your MOT. At MOTs 4 U we pride ourselves in booking our customers in as soon as we can or on a day and time that best suits you. We will always do our utmost to get your MOT complete as soon as possible.

How do I book my car in for an MOT?

Give us a call on 01323 848808 to book your car in for its MOT. We will try our hardest to book you in on the day and time that works best for you.

If my car fails, will MOTs 4 U be able to do the repairs?

No. At MOTs 4 U we don’t do any repairs or sell any parts.

Do I need to be present for the MOT?

You are more than welcome to wait for the MOT to be carried out in our waiting area.

We are happy to serve you teas or coffees whilst you wait.

Alternatively, you can leave the vehicle with us and we will call you when it is ready for collection.

What is an MOT?

An MOT is an annual test of automobile safety, roadworthiness aspects and exhaust emissions required in Great Britain. An MOT test checks that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards. The test must be carried out in an authorised test centre to ensure it complies with certain important requirements of the law. You must keep any vehicle driven on the road in a roadworthy condition.

What does MOT stand for?

Ministry of Transport (Now The Department of Transport)

When is my vehicle eligible for an MOT and how frequently must it be tested?

All vehicles require an MOT once they are 3 years old and over. It is the vehicle owners responsibility to ensure the vehicle is tested every 12 months thereafter.

What happens if my vehicle doesn't have a valid MOT?

It is a legal requirement to have a valid MOT certificate on any vehicle driven on the road.

Without an MOT certificate you will be unable to tax your vehicle and your vehicle insurance may be invalid.

Can I drive my vehicle on the road without a valid MOT?

It is illegal to drive most vehicles without a valid MOT if the vehicle is 3 years old or more.

You are allowed to drive your vehicle without a valid MOT to the MOT test station, providing it is already booked in.

Can I get notified that my MOT is due?

At MOTs 4 U we offer a free text reminder service for all our customers to ensure you never forget to renew your MOT.

We will text you approximately one month before your MOT is due. Please call or speak to reception if you would like to receive this service.

You say you have a 'Green Status' from VOSA... What does that mean?

MOT test stations in this category have proven themselves to be fully compliant with MOT testing standards which are in place along with also being fair to the consumer.

The test Station must comply with the following requirements:

- There is no risk of work generation from MOT failures.

- All MOT testers are up to date with current regulations.

- The customer service offered is satisfactory along with a clean and tidy waiting area.

- Health and safety regulations are fully complied to.

It is very difficult to obtain “GREEN STATUS” and even harder to maintain it due to the expectation of VOSA visits being of a higher standard each time such a visit occurs.

You, our valued customer, will be pleased to know that we are and have been for some time in the “GREEN CATEGORY”.
